Lemny Perez, PsyD

Dr. Lemny Perez is a Dominican American clinician of color with 25 years of professional experience in the social services, weaving together the science of trauma recovery with the somatic and spiritual art of healing.

Seasoned in providing individual, family and group psychotherapy with adults and children in urban and rural settings, Lemny specializes in working with individuals suffering from complex trauma, as well as multicultural and immigrant populations, using modalities rooted in mindfulness-based practices.

Lemny’s professional experience is vast. She has worked in community mental health clinics, schools, psychiatric hospitals, and in the state and county justice system - with a variety of populations, including Spanish speaking and South-East Asian refugees and asylees, veterans, homeless communities, and incarcerated juveniles and adults. Most recently, she served as Director of Behavioral Health at a Federally Qualified Health Center in West Oakland, California, supporting underserved African Americans and Latinx communities impacted by systemic racism and oppression and generational trauma - promoting programs that implement a progressive, and culturally-informed Integrated Behavioral Health paradigm, utilizing  interventions and modalities such as Yoga Therapy, Acupuncture and Drumming.

Lemny holds an undergraduate degree in Psychology from Syracuse University, an M.A. in Writing and Consciousness from the New College of California, and a Doctorate in Psychology from The Wright Institute in Berkeley, California. Her research focuses on the intersectionality of gender studies, ethnic identity development, and mental health outcomes among women of color, which she has presented at conferences in Boston, Orlando, Toronto, and Havana, Cuba.

​Lemny is a student of Kalachakra Master, Khentrul Rinpoche Jamphel Lodro, and a volunteer of the Tibetan Buddhist Rime Institute.

A former guest speaker, associate producer and executive producer on the Spanish Mental Health Radio program, “Cuerpo, Corazon y Comunidad” Lemny is a Second Degree Reiki Practitioner and holds a Certificate from Fair Oaks Massage Institute in Sacramento, CA. Lemny trained as a yoga teacher at Niroga Yoga Studio in Berkeley, California and is certified in Yoga Therapy from the Bhat International School of Holistic Sciences, in Mangalore, India.

"Dr. Lem" also enjoys creative writing, painting, cartooning, and filmmaking and has become a renowned minted artist in the NFT space (@lem_ny) where she is the co-founder of the Dream Conduit, the first of its kind, carbon-neutral, non-profit DAO that enables creatives of every that craft to make their creativity their careers with education and guidance, always at no cost. A native New Yorker, Lemny is working on a documentary film about the history of the Washington Heights neighborhood where she grew up, chronicling the people, culture, and traditions of the Dominican residents, many of whom are now affected by gentrification and displacement.
